How does Scramble Tutor help me?

Scramble Tutor finds the words you can play. It keeps track of the tiles you and your opponent have played, and figures out how you can score more points.

Scramble Tutor improves your vocabulary! Not just "axolotl" or "vizslas", you'll soon learn those important two-, three-, and four- letter words that every expert player uses. (Psst, ever heard of "cwm" or "tsk"?)

How do I use Scramble Tutor?

  1. Start your Scrabble® game as usual.
  2. Start Scramble Tutor, type in the tiles from your Scrabble® hand, and click Solve. Use a period (".") for a blank tile.
  3. Scramble Tutor finds every possible solution, and shows the solutions in a list. Along with each solution, Scramble Tutor includes the solution's score, the number of tiles used,  average letter frequency, and the solution's  SmartScore™.
  4. Click on a solution in the list, and the solution appears on the Scramble Tutor game board.
  5. When you've found a solution you like, click Accept Word. Scramble Tutor adds it to the  Scramble Tutor game board. You'll need to play the same word in Scrabble® as usual.
  6. After each round, enter the tiles your opponent played on the Scramble Tutor game board. Just type directly on the board, and move around using the cursor keys. (To enter a blank tile, type a period ("."), then type the letter assigned to the blank tile.)

Please download and install the latest Scramble Tutor setup package again. It's safe to install the new package without removing any previous Scramble Tutor installation.

Older versions of the setup package used a Microsoft ActiveX™ control, which didn't work on some computers.

I bought Scramble Tutor. Where's my license key?

If you paid with a credit card or instant transfer from your bank account, you should receive an e-mail with the license key a few minutes after you complete the purchase.

If you paid with an electronic check (eCheck), we'll e-mail the license key as soon as your payment clears. Most eChecks clear in 4 business days.

We send the e-mail to your PayPal primary e-mail address. This may not be the same e-mail address you use to log in to PayPal. (We apologize for that inconvenience, but PayPal does not make your non-primary e-mail addresses available to us.)

How do I use a blank tile?

In the Scramble Tutor Tiles box, type a period (".") for each blank tile in your Scrabble® hand.

To place a blank tile on the Scramble Tutor game board, click on the board where the tile belongs, then type a period (".") followed by the letter the tile represents. For example, to use a blank tile for the letter "R", type ".", then "R".

How do filters work?

A filter helps you find a solution quickly. When you apply a filter, only those solutions that match the filter are shown in the list. To apply a filter, choose an item from the Filters list, as shown here.

Scramble Tutor Filters

Scramble Tutor has these kinds of filters:

  • (no filter) - No filtering is done--Scramble Tutor finds all possible solutions for the tiles in your hand (the Tiles box) and shows them in the list.
  • uses current cell - Click anywhere on the Scramble Tutor game board, and only the solutions that use that cell appear in the list. Click somewhere else on the board, and the list updates instantly.
  • starts at current cell - Click anywhere on the Scramble Tutor game board, and only the solutions that start at that cell appear in the list.
  • ends at current cell - Click anywhere on the Scramble Tutor game board, and only the solutions that end at that cell appear in the list.
Each time you click Solve, the filter is reset to (no filter) so you'll be sure not to miss any great solutions.
